Together with its acquisition of Java support services company jClarity, Microsoft is making a play to maximize Java workloads on its Azure cloud platform.

Microsoft calls jClarity the top contributor to the AdoptOpenJDK undertaking, which offers free, open source OpenJDK binaries. Microsoft has been a sponsor of AdoptOpenJDK, that has supplied binaries for both Windows and Linux.

The jClarity team is well-versed from the JVM and has helped clients optimize Java software while also being active at the Java open source community, Microsoft said in a statement.

Usage of Java in Microsoft has increased in the past couple of years. Large-scale Java deployments incorporate the AzureHDInsight analytics service and Minecraft.
